Exciting changes

We have been learning about managing ourselves and monitoring what we are meant to be doing during our morning sessions. We have a task board with five areas of learning to be completed and an effort board to show how much effort we are putting into our learning. We are practicing this new routine on Thursdays, it is exciting and fun.
Jayden is working quietly on publishing his writing.

This is Mikaela ticking off what she has completed and Kyus is looking at what he could do next.

Awesome children reading sunshine classic books

week 8

We have been finding information to answer our water questions. We had to complete a water project about it.

We are very proud of ourselves and so is Mrs Miller. :)

In maths we have been watching teaching tool videos explaining strategies then Mrs Miller works with us to see if we took it in and can understand it.

We are learning not to give up when new learning gets a little harder, we just have to practice a bit more until we understand it.

These are our plastic bottle fish. We have talked about why it's important not to pollute our waters. Sea life is dying because humans keep throwing rubbish into the rivers and streams.

March 19, 2016

Where has the term going? We are busy having fun learning about numbers, words and water. This week we looked deeper into the water cycle.  We found out what each stage means.  We think it is cool that clouds are made out of water and when they get to full it rains.

This week for oral language it is free choice - children are welcome to bring things along to show.

water fun

FUN, FUN, FUN!

Remember this week is the children's triathlon at school.  Swim, bike and run! There will be food and drink for sale.  Bring a blanket and enjoy the evening.

Another week of fun learning.

We drew the water cycle on the iPads using 'explain everything'

We learnt about a school in Uganda - Awere Primary School, and how we helped by providing them with a water-bore so they can drink clean water.
We started making our plastic bottle fish. We have to look after our water and stop polluting so the sea life can live for many years to come.
Golden time was fun -exploring new games, dress ups, hot wheel tracks....

March 01, 2016

Wow, this term is flying by. Matai is working really well, we are developing a safe, happy, learning environment where we can all challenge ourselves to achieve more.

Please keep listening and reading to your child at home, asking lots of questions that get them to think deeper about what they have read.

We need lots of practice with basic facts to 10 and 20, doubling and  halving numbers. This year maths is a focus. Take any opportunity to encourage your child to count backwards, skip count, name shapes or talk about fractions, it will help them make connections and develop their understanding.

This is a good website which covers all areas of maths:

http://interactivesites.weebly.com/math.html

Also go onto Studyladder, I have set basic fact tasks which the children will enjoy completing.

Have fun!

Week 3

Another week has flown by.
The beach trip was fantastic, I put heaps of photos onto the solway school facebook pages because I had so many! Go and have a look if you haven't already!

We have been getting into our maths, reading and writing programmes.
Please read with your children every night, as this will help develop their fluency and through discussions, develop their understanding. Also this week I will send home a sheet to show you what your child needs to work on with their basic facts. Quick basic facts knowledge is the foundation on which your child will build strategies and develop further.
Remember learning needs to be FUN!

making ten - maths game

We have been working on our Waitangi Art

Every friday we glue our kindness notes into our books - we love getting notes!

Week two

wow, fun, busy week!
We shared four special things about ourselves and learnt a lot about each other.

We are learning to reflect on our week and make a comment on our reflection board.

It has been so hot! Swimming has been a must to cool down. We are learning to glide, float, kick across the pool.

Look at us go!

Remember we are off to Riversdale on Thursday the 18th. $5 needs to be paid to the office. We need parents for a ratio of 1 to 5. ( you will also need to go in the sea)
It will be a great day!
